Glutamine is one of the body’s most abundant amino acids, and is an amino acid known as, “conditionally essential.” This means that while the body can produce it under normal physiological conditions, it may require additional dietary sources under certain conditions such as athletic training or stress. In these conditions, glutamine plays a critical role in the metabolism of muscular protein, in the volumization of cells, and the reduction of cell catabolism (particularly in stressful or traumatic situations). Glutamine has additionally been demonstrated to be immunoprotective in stressful situations, meaning that supplementation with glutamine may help to maintain immune system function.
Prior to discussing the physiological effects of glutamine – and more specifically, whether it poses any tangible benefits to the proliferation of skeletal muscle tissue – we need to discuss its place in supplementation, in general. Glutamine is perhaps the most lamented of all the amino acids, regularly denigrated to the point that it’s a joke to many athletes. This is largely a problem of perception: glutamine is not, specifically speaking, an anabolic amino acid, and therefore is of little use as it pertains to, “building tissue.” But, “building tissue” is not the only purpose a supplement may have, and the corollary, preserving tissue (or anti-catabolism) is arguably as important. It is in this capacity that glutamine shines, and for this reason it is included in this formula.
Literature in this context is encouraging. Various studies demonstrate that glutamine supplementation may suppress or inhibit the action of enzymes known as proteases, responsible for the hydrolytic breakdown of protein and amino acids into smaller compounds. These studies show both site-specific and whole-body reductions in this process known as, “proteolysis” in the later stages of skeletal muscle recovery. While encouraging, these data are perhaps not as promising as glutamine’s more indirect effects on the catabolic process – namely its effect on glucose metabolism. In both in vitro and in vivo trials, glutamine has shown the ability to promote the synthesis and storage of glycogen (glycogenesis), both in concert with an independent of carbohydrate ingestion.
These effects are most pronounced in physiologic situations where carbohydrate metabolism reliant on insulin signaling are compromised – such as the chronic caloric deficits present in a dieting situation. In this context, glutamine may function as a critical addition, potentiating the body’s glycogen synthesis and storage response; maximizing the limited amount of carbohydrates a dieter may be ingesting.
I'm taking multiple supplements and fixing my diet, but adding this has really helped my skin complexion I think. My skin looks the best it has in years. Very happy with this supplement.
This helping my recovery . I feel the difference when I take it .
Excellent and extremely clean!
I love it
Add to my pre and post workout. Love it
This has been an awesome addition to my recovery routine. It’s super easy on my stomach, which hasn’t always been the case with other glutamine supplements I’ve tried. Since adding it in, I’ve noticed smoother recovery after my workouts and less overall soreness. It’s been a simple but really effective boost to my stack.
I’ve been an Unmatched customer since day 1 and have been following Kris Gethin since 2012. Love all the products. With that being said, here is my honest review.
Texture - 10/10
Ingredients - 10/10
Taste - 8/10
I never thought I’d say this about an Unmatched product, but these are just too sweet for me! But, they still taste great and are still a 5-star product for sure! It could taste like cardboard and I’d still buy them because I care about ingredients and macros over taste and these are great in that area. Definitely a new staple in my pantry.
I’ve followed Kris’s programs since the inception of Kaged Muscle supplements. Now these….these longevity bars are bat for the best tasting and clean lifestyle products I have tasted. The PB chocolate is really good but the apple cinny is a home run. That flavor and that little crunch you get of the apples is tremendous!
Incredible nutrition profile and taste is so rare and unreal in these bars. Chewy and fudgy but not sticky, full flavor and no digestive issues at all! Thankful to have this option for a meal replacement or treat!
I have always valued the quality of Chris 's products. They have clean ingredients and Chris can back up everything he produces. From supplements to skin care.
FINALLY a protein that doesn’t bloat me or make me gassy!!! 10/10
